& ART

“Ceci n’est pas une pipe…,” so the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte wrote underneath his painting of a pipe in his painting La trahison des images. “This is not a pipe.” Indeed, it is an imitation, a mimesis of a pipe, and art always somehow somewhere is a creation by imitation. Artists know of the power of mimesis and desire, and the connection between the two. No wonder that a lot of art is very inspirational to Mimetic Theory.
