& ENVIRONMENTALISM

As human animals, we consume more than we need to stay alive. Beyond our basic biological needs, our desires are shaped and influenced by others, by models, commercials, social media, and so on… Insofar as our desire is mimetic (i.e. imitative), our ecological footprint might increase exponentially. Mimetic Theory contributes to an understanding of unhealthy types of consumerism. It also sheds light on our tendency to put the blame on convenient scapegoats for our current ecological crisis and the question of global warming.
