In his essay Testaments Betrayed, Czech-born French writer Milan Kundera mentions René Girard in a footnote: “At last, an occasion to cite René Girard; his Mensonge romantique et vérité romanesque is the best book I have ever read on the art of the novel.”

Mimetic Theory resonates in World Literature, not only because Girard made numerous profound contributions to the interpretation of classic novels, but also because his theory inspired contemporary novelists and poets, like Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee, and countless other great authors.
