& SOCIOLOGY/POLITICS

“War is the father of all and the king of all; some he has marked out to be gods and some to be men, some he has made slaves and some free.” This quote by Greek philosopher Heraclitus is highly relevant to the study of social processes and politics from the perspective of Mimetic Theory. Social disorder and polarization originate from an escalation of mimetic rivalries. Those rivalries are essentially conducted by mimetic doubles who tragically resemble each other more and more as they try to differentiate themselves from each other. Political solutions provide temporary social order, often by identifying and targeting an externalized common enemy that unites (potentially) quarrelling groups.
